Privacy Policy

Last updated on 20.05.2018 with adjustments to the new DS-GVO.

Scope

This privacy policy informs users about the nature, scope and purposes of the collection and use of personal data by the responsible provider on this and, where applicable, the above-mentioned "scope" pages.

Handling of personal data

Personal data is information with the help of which a person can be determined, i.e. information that can be traced back to a person. This includes the name, email address or telephone number. But also data about preferences, hobbies, memberships or which websites were viewed by someone count as personal data.

In principle, you can use our online services without disclosing your identity. If you decide to register, i.e. log in as a member (registered user), you can store personal information in your individual user profile. It is subject to the free decision whether this data is entered. Since we try to collect as little personal data as possible for the use of the offer, it is sufficient for registration to enter a name - under which one is listed as a member and which does not have to be the same as the real name - and the e-mail address to which the confirmation mail is sent.

In connection with the access to our pages, data such as the name of the accessed website, file, date and time of access, amount of data transferred, notification of successful access, browser type and version, the user's operating system, referrer URL (the previously visited page), IP address and the requesting provider are retrieved on the server side. The provider uses the log data only for statistical analysis for the purpose of operation, security and optimization of the offer. However, the provider reserves the right to subsequently review the log data if there is a justified suspicion of illegal use based on concrete indications.

Personal data is only collected, used and passed on by the provider if this is permitted by law or the users consent to the data collection.

Registration

You can register on our website to use additional functions on the site. We use the data entered for this purpose only for the purpose of using the particular offer or service for which you have registered. The mandatory information requested during registration must be provided in full. Otherwise we will reject the registration.

For important changes, for example in the scope of the offer or for technically necessary changes, we use the e-mail address provided during registration to inform you in this way.

The processing of the data entered during registration is based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO). You can revoke any consent you have given at any time. For this purpose, an informal communication by e-mail to us is sufficient. The legality of the data processing already carried out remains unaffected by the revocation.

The data collected during registration will be stored by us as long as you are registered on our website and will then be deleted. Legal retention periods remain unaffected.

Registration with third-party providers

Instead of registering directly on our website, you can register via a third-party provider.

If you choose to register with a third-party provider, you will automatically be redirected to their platform. There you can log in with your usage data. This links your third-party provider profile to our website or services. This link gives us access to your data stored with the third-party provider. These are mainly:

  • Name
  • Profile picture
  • Stored e-mail address
  • ID
  • Birthday
  • Gender
  • Country

This data is used to set up, provide and personalize your account.
For more information, please refer to the respective terms of use and privacy policy.

  • Content: We send transactional messages about important events such as "new private message in inbox", "new reply to one of your subscribed topics", "when mentioned", and summaries of events while you are away.

  • Cancellation: You can cancel the receipt of our transactional emails at any time. You will find a link to unsubscribe at the bottom of each email.

Use of cookies

We use cookies - small files with configuration information. They help to determine user-specific settings and to implement special user functions. We do not collect any personal data via cookies. All functions of the website can also be used without cookies, however, some user-defined properties and settings are then not available.

Contacting

When contacting the provider (for example, via contact form or e-mail), the user's information is stored for the purpose of processing the request and in the event that follow-up questions arise.

Contributions

The contributions on our site are accessible to everyone. Contributions should be carefully checked before publication to see whether they contain information that is not intended for the public.

When users leave contributions on the site, their IP addresses are stored. This is done for the security of the provider in case someone writes illegal content in comments and posts (insults, forbidden political propaganda, etc.). In this case, the provider itself can be prosecuted for the comment or post and is therefore interested in the identity of the author.

Right of revocation

If you have provided us with personal data, you can change and delete them at any time in the user profile. A complete deletion of the account, can be made in the user account. However, contributions and topics made up to this point may remain.

Votes

By optionally submitting the vote form, personal data will be stored and evaluated for fraud prevention of the vote system. This personal data will not be passed on to third parties and will be deleted after 6 months.

Newsletter tracking

The newsletters contain so-called tracking pixels. A tracking pixel is a miniature graphic that is embedded in such e-mails that are sent in HTML format to enable log file recording and log file analysis. This enables a statistical evaluation of the success or failure of online marketing campaigns. Based on the embedded tracking pixel, we can see if and when an e-mail was opened by a data subject, and which links in the e-mail were called up by the data subject.

Such personal data collected via the tracking pixels contained in the newsletters are stored and evaluated by the controller in order to optimize the newsletter dispatch and to better adapt the content of future newsletters to the interests of the data subject. This personal data will not be disclosed to third parties. Data subjects are entitled at any time to revoke the separate declaration of consent given in this regard via the double opt-in procedure. After a revocation, this personal data will be deleted by the controller. A withdrawal from the receipt of the newsletter automatically indicates a revocation.

Raffles

In order to enable you to participate in a raffle, we collect personal data (surname, first name, e-mail address and, under certain circumstances, a postal address for the dispatch of physical prizes). According to Art. 6 para. 1 a.) -c.) DSGVO, we are entitled to collect, store and transmit personal data if the data subject has consented to the data processing or a contract or legal obligation is to be fulfilled.
Your data will only be used for the implementation of the competition and not for any other purposes. Data will not be transferred to other third parties.
Furthermore, your data will be transmitted to internal departments involved in the execution of the respective business processes, e.g. bookkeeping, accounting, purchasing, EDP. As soon as the business purpose of carrying out the competition has been fulfilled and you have not been determined as the winner, we will delete your data within one month of the end of the competition. If you have been determined as the winner, there are retention periods under tax and commercial law. These are 10 years for accounting documents in accordance with Section 147 (1) of the German Fiscal Code (AO) and 6 years for business documents in accordance with Section 257 (1) of the German Commercial Code (HGB).

ThirdParty Services

Within our online offer, we use content or service offers of third-party providers on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimization and economic operation of our online offer within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. DSGVO) to integrate content or services offered by third-party providers, such as videos or fonts (hereinafter uniformly referred to as "content"). This always requires that the third-party providers of this content are aware of the IP address of the user, since without the IP address they could not send the content to their browser. The IP address is thus required for the display of this content. We endeavor to use only such content whose respective providers use the IP address only for the delivery of the content. Third-party providers may also use so-called pixel tags (invisible graphics, also known as "web beacons") for statistical or marketing purposes. The "pixel tags" can be used to evaluate information such as visitor traffic on the pages of this website. The pseudonymous information may also be stored in cookies on the user's device and may contain, among other things, technical information about the browser and operating system, referring websites, time of visit and other information about the use of our online offer, as well as be linked to such information from other sources.

Gravatar (profile pictures)

We use the service Gravatar of Automattic Inc, 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA, within our online offer and especially in the forum.

Gravatar is a service where users can register and store profile pictures and their email addresses. When users leave posts or comments on other online presences (especially blogs) with the respective email address, their profile pictures can thus be displayed next to the posts or comments. For this purpose, the email address provided by the users is transmitted to Gravatar in encrypted form for the purpose of checking whether a profile is stored for it. This is the sole purpose of transmitting the email address and it will not be used for any other purpose, but will be deleted afterwards.

Gravatar is used on the basis of our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (f) DSGVO, as we use Gravatar to offer post and comment authors the opportunity to personalize their posts with a profile picture.

By displaying images, Gravatar obtains the IP address of users, as this is necessary for a communication between a browser and an online service. More information on the collection and use of data by Gravatar can be found in Automattic's privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

If users do not want a user picture linked to their email address on Gravatar to appear in the comments, they should use an email address that is not on file with Gravatar to comment. We also point out that it is also possible to use an anonymous email address or no email address at all if users do not want their email address to be sent to Gravatar. Users can completely prevent the transmission of data by not using our commenting system.

Facebook Social Plugins

We use social plugins ("plugins") of the social network face on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimization and economic operation of our online offer within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. The list and appearance of Facebook social plugins can be viewed here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/.

Facebook is certified under the Privacy Shield agreement and thereby offers a guarantee of compliance with European data protection law (https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt0000000GnywAAC&status=Active).

When a user calls up a function of this online offer that contains such a plugin, his or her device establishes a direct connection with Facebook's servers. The content of the plugin is transmitted by Facebook directly to the user's device and integrated into the online offer by the latter. In the process, usage profiles of the users can be created from the processed data. We therefore have no influence on the scope of the data that Facebook collects with the help of this plugin and therefore inform users according to our level of knowledge.

By integrating the plugins, Facebook receives the information that a user has accessed the corresponding page of the online offer. If the user is logged into Facebook, Facebook can assign the visit to his Facebook account. If users interact with the plugins, for example by clicking the Like button or posting a comment, the corresponding information is transmitted from your device directly to Facebook and stored there. If a user is not a member of Facebook, there is still the possibility that Facebook will learn and store his or her IP address. According to Facebook, only an anonymized IP address is stored in Germany.

The purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of the data by Facebook, as well as the related rights and settings options for protecting the privacy of users, can be found in Facebook's privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/.

Re/marketing services

We use on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimization and economic operation of our online offer within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. DSGVO) the marketing and remarketing services of the following companies (table).

The marketing services allow us to display advertisements for and on our website in a more targeted manner in order to present users only with ads that potentially match their interests. For example, if a user is shown ads for products in which he or she has expressed interest on other websites, this is referred to as "remarketing". For these purposes, when our website and other websites on which marketing services are active are called up, a code is directly executed by the marketing service and so-called (re)marketing tags (invisible graphics or code, also referred to as "web beacons") are integrated into the website. With their help, an individual cookie, i.e. a small file, is stored on the user's device (similar technologies can be used instead of cookies). The cookies can be set by various domains, including google.com, doubleclick.net, invitemedia.com, admeld.com, googlesyndication.com, googleadservices.com and adnxs.com. This file records which websites the user has visited, which content he is interested in and which offers he has clicked on, as well as technical information on the browser and operating system, referring websites, time of visit and other information on the use of the online offer. The user's IP address is also recorded and stored in abbreviated form. If the user subsequently visits other websites, he can be shown ads tailored to his interests.

The user's data is processed pseudonymously by the marketing service. This means that the marketing service does not store and process the name or e-mail address of the user, for example, but processes the relevant data on a cookie basis within pseudonymous user profiles. This means that from the point of view of the marketing services, the ads are not managed and displayed for a specifically identified person, but for the cookie holder, regardless of who this cookie holder is. This does not apply if a user has explicitly allowed a marketing service to process the data without this pseudonymization. The information collected by marketing services about users is transmitted to the marketing service and stored on their servers.

The marketing services we use include, among others, the online advertising program "Google AdWords". In the case of Google AdWords, each AdWords customer receives a different "conversion cookie". Cookies can therefore not be tracked across the websites of AdWords customers. The information obtained using the cookie is used to create conversion statistics for AdWords customers who have opted in to conversion tracking. The AdWords customers learn the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a page tagged with a conversion tracking tag. However, they do not receive information that personally identifies users.

We may include third-party advertisements based on the marketing service used. Marketing Service use cookies that allow Marketing Service and its partner websites to serve ads based on users' visits to this website or other websites on the Internet.

Furthermore, we may use "Google Tag Manager" to integrate and manage Google analytics and marketing services on our website.
